Police are investigating several incidents in which skimming devices have been placed on ATMs at banks in Dutchess County. 

Since the beginning of September, two bank locations, one in the Town of Hyde Park, and one in the Town of Poughkeepsie were targeted by two suspects placing the devices. The skimming devices were placed on the ATMs during the month of September, and recorded victim's account numbers and authorization codes. That information was later used fraudulently.

Officials from both the Town of Poughkeepsie and Hyde Park police departments are requesting the public's assistance in identifying the suspects from surveillance photos at the ATMs.

Here are some tips to to avoid being victimized by an ATM skimmer in the future:

  • Inspect the ATM, gas pump, or credit card reader before using it.  Be suspicious if you notice that any loose or damaged parts.
  • When entering your pin, block the keypad with your other hand to prevent possible hidden cameras from recording your number.
  • If possible, use an ATM that is located inside of the bank.
