Scotty McCreery, Sara Evans and more country artists have experienced shakeups in their careers early in 2016. Both McCreery and Evans have been dropped from their record labels (Mercury Nashville and Sony Music Nashville, respectively), as have a handful of other acts.

McCreery has been removed from Universal Music Group's website, and representatives for both UMG Nashville (of which Mercury Nashville is an imprint) and the singer have confirmed the news to Taste of Country.

“I enjoyed being on Mercury Nashville / Interscope, and I appreciate all the great people who worked hard on my behalf while I was there,” McCreery says in a statement. “I am excited about what the future holds and the opportunities being presented to me.”

McCreery signed with Mercury Nashville after winning Season 10 of American Idol in 2011 and released two studio albums and one Christmas album while with the label. His most recent single was "Southern Belle," which was to be part of a larger project.

“We’re just stretching. We’re just trying new things,” McCreery told The Boot in the fall. “From the four years ago when I started, we kind of evolved. We’re still evolving. Every artist is evolving. So this is the product of a 21-year-old Scotty.”

Evans, meanwhile, is one of five artists to leave Sony Music Nashville. According to MusicRow, the Swon Brothers, the Henningsens and Josh Dorr have also been dropped from the record label, and All Access reports that Jerrod Niemann and Arista, an imprint of Sony Music Nashville, have parted ways as well.
