
School Bus Accident Sends 10 to the Hospital in Orange County
A school bus carrying 43 students reportedly collided with a pick-up truck in Orange County, NY Monday morning.
On Monday, October 28, 2024, the Town of Crawford Police Department (CPD) was called to respond to a reported school bus accident involving one bus and a pick-up truck.
School Bus Accident in Orange County, New York
According to The Town of Crawford Police Department Chief Dominick L Blasko, the call came in at approximately 8:54 a.m. and reported a school bus accident at the intersection of State Route 52 and Orange County Route 17 in the Town of Crawford, New York.

As CPD arrived on the scene and began its investigation it was determined that a 2021 Dodge truck being driven by 37-year-old Daniel Mellon of Pine Bush, NY was traveling eastbound in the eastbound lane of State Route 52 when it collided with a 2024 First Student school bus.
43 Students Onboard Bus
Police say that the First Student school bus, which was being operated by 54-year-old Shawin M Nedd-Welcome of Montgomery, NY was carrying 43 Pine Bush students to the Edward J Russell Elementary School located at 78 Holland Ave. According to Crime Watch the bus was making a left-hand turn onto State Route 52 from Route 17 when the collision occurred.
10 Sent to Orange County Hospital
Police said that 9 students who are all elementary school age (between 5 and 10), and one adult were all transported by ambulance to Garnett Medical Center in Middletown, NY to receive treatment for minor injuries consisting of pain and bruising. At this time all the students have been released from the hospital, while the adult was still being evaluated.
CPD didn't say if any tickets were issued after the accident but did say that this is an active investigation and is asking anyone who might have witnessed it to please contact the Town of Crawford Police Department at 845-744-3300.

CPD was assisted at the scene by the Pine Bush Central School District, along with numerous first responders from the Montgomery Police Department, New York State Police, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Emergency Management, Pine Bush and Walden Fire, Pine Bush Montgomery, and Empress Ambulance.
