New York State Police Warn of Roblox Threat

On Wednesday September 3rd, 2025 the New York State Police Troop K shared an alert on social media to parents about online safety.

In the post, the NYS Police explain that an investigation was launched after a threat was reportedly made towards a Taconic Hills Central School District student on the gaming platform Roblox.

Roblox is a popular gaming platform for all age groups, but extremely popular withing the younger demographic. According to the games website "Roblox is the ultimate virtual universe that lets you create, share experiences with friends, and be anything you can imagine."

Millions of users play Roblox each and every day.

Taconic Hills Roblox Threat Debunked

Thankfully, the threat turned out to be false. The New York State Police write

Roblox worked closely with investigators, and the report was confirmed to be false. There is no danger to the school or the community.
State police used this opportunity to share an important reminder on how to keep your kids safe online while they game.
Thew New York State Police share the following tips.
• Know who your children are interacting with online.
• Use parental controls and privacy settings to help protect them.
• Encourage your children to speak up if they see or hear something suspicious.
• Report concerning online behavior to law enforcement right away.

Roblox Linked to Sexual Predators: A Warning to Parents

In August 2025, Louisiana State officials sued the gaming platform Roblox citing dangerous consequences.

According to the lawsuit, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill accused the Roblox platform of endangering the safety of children who play. The lawsuit goes on the allege that Roblox doesn't warn parents about the danger the game presents to children.

Murrill said in a statement:

“Roblox is overrun with harmful content and child predators because it prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety,”

In the lawsuit obtained by NBC News, it alleges that a Louisiana man was arrested on suspicion of possessing child sexual abuse material adding that the man used a voice-altering program to "mimic the sounds of a young female." The man allegedly used the voice to lure and sexually exploit minors on Roblox.

While there is no lawsuit like this in New York, many are referencing it when it comes to online safety for kids.
