New York State Cold Case: Brian C. Burton in Red Hook, NY

Back on September 22nd, 1993, Brian Charles Burton was found shot several times in a vehicle found in Red Hook, New York.

Burton was 34 at the time of his murder, leaving behind 4 young children.

The case has gone cold for the last 32 years. The New York State Police are hoping to find justice for Brian and the Burton family. On Facebook they write "If you have any information that could assist in this case—no matter how small—please contact the New York State Police."

The NYS Police add "Your tip could help bring justice to Brian and closure to his loved ones."

Now, the NYS police are using a recent tip to dig back into Brian Burton's cold case.

NYS Police Reignite Search For More Answers in Brian Burton Case

In a Facebook post in July of 2025, the New York State Police advised the community in the Red Hook area of an increased police presence. They wrote:

State Police will be in the area of Spring Lake in the Town of Red Hook as part of an ongoing investigation into a 1993 homicide cold case.

Later on, the NYS Police shared the cold case they were investigating was the case of Brian C. Burton. In a Facebook post they explained further writing:

This week, the New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team is conducting a grid search in the area as part of the ongoing investigation. With the help of evolving forensic technology, including advanced DNA testing, investigators are pursuing every possible lead

In the video they add that 8 months ago New York State Police in Rhinebeck had received new information in relation to the murder of Brian Burton.
