Putnam County St. Patrick’s Day DWI Crackdown
We are getting ready for St. Patrick's Day around the Hudson Valley and as I'm sure we're all aware, it's one of the most popular drinking holidays of the year.
With it being a popular holiday to drink police officers will be hyper vigilant to drunk drivers. Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith released a press release urging drivers to find a designated driver who isn't drinking to get them home safely after their celebrations. The press release states that there will be an increase in sheriffs on duty for St. Patrick's Day which lands on a Friday this year (March 17th).
Sheriff Smith explained “Drunk driving threatens the life and safety of every person on our streets and roads and law enforcement has zero-tolerance for drunk driving in Putnam County." With that being said Sheriff Smith encourages the celebration of Irish immigrants, however they "must celebrate responsibly and that includes not driving if they have been drinking.”
If you're celebrating St. Patrick's Day please plan ahead and get yourself a designated driver before you get to the bar or restaurant where you'll be enjoying St. Patrick's Day festivities. Have fun and be safe!
