The NYSDEC has announced that it is accepting public comments until March 24, 2019 about a proposed remedy to address contamination that is related to the Hercules Inc. / Dyno-Nobel Site  #356001 at 161 Ulster Avenue in Ulster Park New York. They have also scheduled a public meeting on March 11, 2019 at 7pm which will be held at the Town of Esopus Town Hall, 284 Broadway (9W) in Ulster Park, New York.

According to a fact sheet which you can read in it's entirety below the estimated cost to implement the remedy is $10,287,000. The site at 161 Ulster Ave is classified as a Class "2" site in the State Registry on Inactive Hazardous Waste Sites. A class 2 site requires action due to the fact that it represents a significant danger to public health and/or the environment.

The fact sheet explains that the primary contaminants at the site are inorganic metals in the soil site wide and what they call "energetic" materials that have the potential to be explosive. There is also volatile organic compounds present in the ground water. The presence of the explosive materials adds to the complexity of the remedy.

The meeting scheduled for March 11th is to discuss the proposed remedy. It is also set up to accept public comments regarding this issue.
