Just about every street across the Hudson Valley has one thing in common! What? The majority of them have at least one house that's for sale and depending on the town the house is located in will depend on how quickly the house sells.

We understand that not EVERY street has a house for sale on it BUT if you pay close attention the next time you drive on some of the side streets in most towns there's at least one that has one of those real estate for sale signs on its lawn. I was recently hunting for a house in Dutchess County and to say the market is competitive is an understatement.

Almost every time I found a house I was interested in I would set up a showing with my real estate agent and no sooner did we look at it than she would tell us that it already has an offer. It was extremely frustrating!! That's why when I saw a new real estate study saying that's not the case in Poughkeepsie I was surprised.

Believe it or not, 2023 was the slowest year for home sales in almost three decades according to the folks at Creditnews and to our surprise Poughkeepsie, New York has been named the 3rd slowest selling metro in the entire country.

The new study looked at the number of unique listings that were active at any time in a given month, the number of days before a listing goes to sale-pending status, and a few other factors to determine its rankings.

Poughkeepsie grabbed the 3rd spot on the slowest-selling housing market list with research showing that it takes 51 days for a house to go from for sale to sale pending status. New York, NY was the only other East Coast area to make the top 10 list for 2023 with all other locations being located in larger Sun Belt cities, with three located in Texas and another three in Florida.

Fastest Selling Housing Markets Nationwide

On the flip side, the new study shows that two New York areas are near the top of this year's list with Syracuse, NY grabbing the 3rd spot with research showing it takes 9 days for a house to go from for sale to sale pending status. Rochester, New York came in a t number 2 with similar numbers to Syracuse.

The #1 fastest-selling housing market in 2023 is located in Hartford, CT with research showing that houses spend 8 median days on the market.
