Poughkeepsie, NY Firehouse Transforms into The Sensory Space
A former Poughkeepsie firehouse has transformed into a safe place for physical and emotional expression. The Sensory Space Poughkeepsie is getting ready to open its doors to its brand new second location.
What Is The Sensory Space?
According to their website, in The Sensory Space kids are:
able to use sensory supports while participating in play therapy and psychotherapy. It is a safe place for physical and emotional expression. Children can bounce, climb or swing while they learn to understand their feelings and themselves. Children are encouraged to explore different textures, sounds, and smells. We are proud to offer supportive services including occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy.
The new space is staffed with 10 different therapists with an array of specialties and social workers who have years of experience working with children, adults, families, and groups. There's even a cute therapy dog on the staff:
The Sensory Space is opening its second location on Main Street in Poughkeepsie with an open house on Friday, May 20th. The second location at 766 Main Stree, used to be an old firehouse, The Sensory Space explains:
Our new space will be located at 766 Main Street in Poughkeepsie. This space was previously a firehouse and was redone by Mid Hudson Construction Management to become a modern, beautiful and open space. We can’t wait for you to come see us at both our locations.
During its May 20th open house from 4 pm to 7 pm, families will enjoy a scavenger hunt that connects both Sensory Space locations and door prizes, while learning about all the programs The Sensory Space has to offer.
The Sensory Space has another location at 51 Springside Avenue in Poughkeepsie.
