Unfortunately, 2024 saw several local businesses closing their doors for good.
These were popular businesses that had quite the following and had been around for years, like Acropolis Diner in Poughkeepsie, The Jolly Cow in Port Ewen, and The Gunk Haus in Highland.

Popular Ulster County Bakery Closes Right Before The Holidays
One bakery will not see the hustle and bustle of the holiday season 2024.
Frieda's Bakery in Milton, New York shared the unfortunate news earlier this week on social media. In the post the share "After much reflection and with a heavy heart, we have made the difficult decision to close Frida’s."
The post goes on to say how much pride they take in the relationships they've built over the years "and the milestones we’ve shared with our customers and community."
Frieda's goes on to write:
Thank you for being a part of our story. Though we are saying goodbye for now, we look forward to crossing paths again in the future, in one way or another.
A former Frieda's employee tells us the bakery was a fantastic place to work, not only was the staff kind and made a welcoming work environment, the customers were always kind too.
Frieda's Bakery officially closed on Thursday, December 12th, 2024.
Unsettling Pattern Of Closures in Beacon, New York
As we mentioned earlier, a handful of businesses across the region have closed their doors over the last year.
Beacon, while one of the hottest zip codes in the Hudson Valley, saw many popular businesses close for good.
