Popular New Paltz Businesses Running on Bottled Water
Many popular New Paltz restaurants are finding ways to stay open as the village responds to an ongoing water issue.
Earlier this week, Village of New Paltz residents reported an odd smell and taste coming from the village's drinking water.
Soon officials advised residents to not use the tap water for drinking, cooking, or making ice. However, state and county officials deemed it "okay" to use the water to shower and wash your dishes and clothes.
Free potable water will continue to remain available until further notice at village hall and at the Meadowbrook, Huguenot Park, and Town and County apartment complexes.
The cause of the water problem may have been identified, but the timeline for getting the water system back online is still unknown.
New Paltz Central School District reopened for school on Wednesday. Two days of water have been provided to New Paltz schools, officials say.
SUNY New Paltz canceled all classes and ordered students to leave campus until at least Sunday.
Some businesses in New Paltz took to Facebook to tell residents they are still open.
McGillicuddy's announced it has "have switched over to all clean and approved water!" While the Hampton Inn said the hotel has "bottled water for brushing teeth, drinking water, coffee preparation and cooking breakfast."
In a Youtube video, Village of New Paltz Mayor Tim Rogers confirmed other local restaurants are dealing with the issue and are remaining open.
