Kingston Police arrested a man that worked at a used-car dealership after he allegedly sold a car for scrap metal.

60-year-old Michael J. Labarerra, from Rifton, was charged with 4th-degree grand larceny, 1st-degree falsifying business records, felonies, and making a false written statement, a misdemeanor.

According to Kingston Police, on February 9th, police received a report of a stolen motor vehicle. In July of 2015, the owner of the vehicle claims to have had the vehicle towed to the used dealership where the car was purchased. The owner brought the car to the shop to have it repaired. After several months the owner returned to the dealership for the car, but the car was gone.

Authorities say an investigated revealed that Labarerra sold the car to a local metal recycling plant in August of 2015. During the sale Labarerra allegedly signed documents stating he was the owner of vehicle and had the right to scrap it.

The investigation is ongoing.
