A Newburgh man was high on PCP when he tried to stab another man in a domestic dispute, the City of Newburgh Police Department said in a press release Tuesday.

Authorities responded to a Carter Street residence at 10:21AM on Tuesday for a report to a stabbing in progress. When police arrived, they found two men holding down 32-year-old Devon Patterson. Patterson, who lives at the Carter Street home, was allegedly high on PCP and had attempted to stab one of the men holding him.

The man who was nearly stabbed by Patterson was able to fend him off with the help of the second man until police arrived, authorities said. Multiple officers and a taser were needed to subdue Patterson.

The man who was nearly stabbed by Patterson received minor cuts to his arms. He was treated at St. Luke's Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and released.

Patterson was also brought to St. Luke's Hospital, where he remained for treatment and observation Tuesday night. City of Newburgh police said Devon would be charged with attempted assault and assault, both felonies, and misdemeanor resisting arrest when he is discharged from the hospital.
