Places in Connecticut You Can Take the Train to the Pumpkin Patch

This time of year there are pumpkin patches at every nursery and garden center around, and you really don't need to hop a train to get to one, but why not combine a train ride through the spectacular foliage of the state with a stop at a pumpkin patch to make things really festive?

This fall, there are three places in Connecticut where you can take the train to the pumpkin patch.

The Danbury Railway Museum is offering pumpkin patch trains for four weekends during the month of October. Rail riders will be treated to a ride through the museums railyard to the pumpkin patch where you'll be greeted by cookies, apple cider, and a family photo op. Then, you and your kids can go select a free pumpkin.

The Railway Museum of New England in Thomaston is another one of the stops you can make if you want to take a pumpkin train ride.

Here you'll enjoy the wonderful views and colors of autumn throughout the upper Naugatuck Valley on their Pumpkin Patch Trains. According to the museums site, rmne.org, these pumpkin trains will take you along the southern end of the Naugatuck line where the river closely follows the tracks, you'll have great views of the river and surrounding scenery.

During the Pumpkin Patch trains, visitors will also make a stop at the RMNE’s very own pumpkin patch. Here, kids will be able to go out and select their very own pumpkin to bring home. The ride runs about 1 hour and 20 minutes in length, and will take place starting October 17 right through and including Halloween. You can click HERE to get tickets and more information.

The final place in Connecticut where you can take a pumpkin train ride is at the Essex Steam Train in Essex, Connecticut.

Here you can hop on one of their historic steam trains at Essex station for a ride to Deep River for fall festivities and the pumpkin patch. At the patch, each child gets to select a pumpkin and have their face painted with a fun fall design.

The return trip takes you back to Essex station so the kids can decorate their pumpkin, and everyone can enjoy apple cider and donuts too.
