It seems like every other day another scam comes to the Hudson Valley.

This time its happening in Orange County.

The Monroe Police Department has posted a warning on Facebook about a scam that has been reported a bunch of times over the last couple of days.

According to their post, the department has received reports that residents have been receiving telephone calls from an unknown person that is claiming to be a representative of Orange and Rockland Utilities.

In all of the reported cases, a male caller claims that money is owed to Orange and Rockland Utilities as a result of a past due bill. The male caller then threatens that a technician will shut off the utilities unless payment is made immediately.

I have received these types of calls before and when I do I simply hang up the phone, make a note of the callers phone number and I call my local police department.

As a reminder, if you receive any suspicious phone calls like this one, do not give them any information. Also a good rule is to never give out any important information over the telephone unless you are %1000 sure you can trust the person on the line.
