
Train Tragedy in Rhinebeck Claims the Life of 68-Year-Old Woman
A tragic incident in the Hudson Valley is under investigation after a woman was struck and killed by a train in Dutchess County, NY, over the weekend.

According to the New York State Police, troopers out of the Rhinebeck barracks were called to the Rhinecliff Train Station, located at 455 Rhinecliff Road, in the Town of Rhinebeck at approximately 7:46 a.m. on April 25th, 2026, for reports of a pedestrian hit by a train along the Amtrak rail line.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 68-year-old woman stepped onto the tracks and was struck by an oncoming Amtrak train. Sadly, authorities say she was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, it’s unclear what led up to the incident or why the woman entered the tracks. Investigators have not released her identity.
Scene Cleared in Rhinebeck
Earlier updates from State Police indicated that emergency crews had cleared the scene and reassured the public that there was no ongoing threat or danger in the area.

Train traffic at the Rhinecliff Station was temporarily impacted as first responders worked at the scene, but service has since resumed and is running as scheduled.
Active Investigation
State Police did say that the investigation remains active, and they are expected to release more details as it continues.
