A man who led police on a high-speed chase on I-87 in the Hudson Valley, in an alleged stolen car, was caught after he ran out of gas.

On Saturday around 1:45 a.m., State Police attempted to stop a vehicle on I-87 in the town of Ulster for an alleged equipment violation.

The driver didn’t stop, and a chase ensued, police say. After multiple attempts to stop the car, police ended their pursuit due to safety concerns.

State Police continued checking the area for the vehicle and gave the vehicle description to other officers.

A short time later another trooper found the car parked on the shoulder of the road after running out of gas, officials say.

Two people were taken into custody. During a further investigation, troopers determined the vehicle was reported stolen by the NYPD, police say.

The driver, 39-year-old Angel A. Figueroa of Bronx, was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, and multiple vehicle and traffic violations.

Figueroa was arraigned in the Town of Ulster Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond.

The other person in the vehicle was not charged.
