New York State Police Release Finds From Truck Accident

Early Monday morning, there was an accident on the New York State Thruway just before 5 AM. I had a report on this earlier with pictures from the Catskill Fire Company, Inc. Now, the New York State Police have released their findings after investigating the accident.

New York State Police Release Information Regarding Truck Accident

New York State Police Troop T posted a press release, which was shared by the New York State Thruway Authority late Monday afternoon. The results of the New York State Police investigation were shared on social media, and there was a link to the official report from the New York State Police.

According to the New York State Police press release, the accident on the New York State Thruway that occurred on Monday, August 11th, at approximately 4:45 AM was the result of two tractor-trailer trucks colliding. The location was on the northbound side of the New York State Thruway between exits 20 & 21.

New York State Police Release Findings From Truck Accident Investigation

The investigation by the New York State Police revealed that a 2024 Peterbilt tractor-trailer truck was traveling northbound in the left lane. The driver, Andnet Yitna Kirubel from Windsor, Ontario, Canada, attempted to move to the right lane, which is when he struck the rear of the other truck, a 2018 Freightliner, being driven by Jorge Montes De Oca of Miami, Florida.

The Peterbilt truck driven by Kirubel continued to sideswipe the Freightliner truck as they traveled north until it veered off onto the right shoulder and the cab overturned. As for the trailer came to rest against the guiderail.
