Bodycam Captures Terrifying Moment Trooper Hit by SUV in Upstate New York
A New York State Trooper is lucky to be alive after she was struck by a vehicle while standing on the side of a road in Upstate New York.
Members of law enforcement officers face countless dangers every time they put on their uniform, but many say some of the most dangerous moments happen on the side of the road during traffic stops or crash investigations. That danger became reality earlier this month for New York State Trooper Bailey Martin.
State Troopers Investigate Accident
According to the New York State Police, it happened at approximately 8:07 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026, when two troopers were investigating a property damage accident at the intersection of State Route 458 and State Route 30 in the town of Duane, NY.
During the investigation, the two troopers who were standing outside of their marked state police vehicles, with emergency lights activated, had the scare of a lifetime when a vehicle flew through a stop sign and slammed into one of the troopers.

The trooper, identified as Trooper Bailey Martin, was able to capture the entire brush with death on bodycam video. (Viewer discretion is advised, as the footage may be disturbing to some.)
As you can see at about 30 seconds into the video above, a gray 2016 Dodge Durango was traveling eastbound on State Route 458 approaching the intersection with State Route 30 when the driver failed to see the posted stop sign and was unable to stop the vehicle.
Sun-Blinded Driver
The driver, identified as 21-year-old Colin M. Wanat of Eastham, Massachusetts, told troopers that the sun impaired his vision and he did not see the stop sign. He said he eventually attempted to stop and turn onto State Route 30 but was unable to do so. Once through the stop sign, the Durango struck Trooper Martin and then crashed into her patrol vehicle.

Thankfully, she has since returned to duty.
