Kingston, New York Introduces New Traffic Safety Unit
Residents of The City of Kingston voices have been heard. In a post on social media The City of Kingston announced the addition of their new Traffic Safety Unit.
Mayor Steve Nobel wrote in a statement “We have heard the concerns of the community loud and clear regarding traffic safety in Kingston. You all have asked for more traffic enforcement on our City streets to make the community a safer place to walk, bike and drive."
Nobel went on to add:
“Just in the first few weeks, we have seen great success in slowing folks down, enforcing traffic laws, and even confiscating illegal drugs during these stops.
The Kingston Traffic Safety Unit is made up of 2 officers and has been busy since the beginning of the year. According to the post they have "conducted 342 stops, issued 325 summonses and 111 warnings, made 13 arrests, and assisted in five crashes."
What Will The Kingston Traffic Safety Unit Focus on?
The newly implemented Traffic Safety Unit's primary focus, according to the City of Kings, will be the "enforcement of vehicle and traffic laws."
They will be responsible for the following: identifying and addressing traffic hazards, conducting vehicle and driver safety check points, as well as overseeing school crossing guards.
