IKEA Opening a New Store in Upstate New York
The popular ready-to-assemble furniture retail company has announced plans to open a third store in New York State.
For many years, budget furniture shoppers in the Hudson Valley have long awaited the announcement that one of the biggest names in build-it-yourself furniture would be opening a new store somewhere in the Hudson Valley.
IKEA Coming to the Hudson Valley?
A few years ago, we published a plea to the furniture company to consider expanding into the Hudson Valley. We even went as far as to highlight three separate locations that we thought would be a perfect fit for the Sweden-born furniture brand.
Unfortunately, IKEA didn't respond to our plea, but recently announced that they are planning to expand in New York, just not in the Hudson Valley region.

According to the IKEA website, they have announced plans to open a new store at the Destiny USA shopping center in Syracuse, New York. The new IKEA Syracuse store will replace the recently closed At Home store at the mall and will be the third IKEA store in New York, joining locations in Brooklyn and Long Island.

The new IKEA Syracuse store will cover a nearly 70,000 square-foot space, which is much smaller than the average IKEA store (300,000 sq. ft.), and offer customers the opportunity to explore options and solutions for a better life at home, according to a press release.
It will also offer a curated selection of more than 3,000 products available for immediate takeaway, a central planning area where customers design and order home furnishing solutions with support from an IKEA team member, and much more.
IKEA Food Offerings
Not only will the new IKEA store feature cost-friendly flat-packed furniture, it will also offer customers the chance to savor the "Swedish food experience" with a variety of hot and cold IKEA favorites like meatballs, plant balls, hot dogs, veggie dogs, plant dogs, cinnamon buns, and more.
When Will IKEA Open in New York?
IKEA Syracuse is expected to open sometime in the fall and will give folks living in the Syracuse metro area access to the IKEA experience a little closer to home. "The opening of IKEA Syracuse highlights our commitment to bring IKEA closer to the many people and make it easier and more affordable to access our home furnishing products and solutions," said Javier Quiñones, CEO & chief sustainability officer, IKEA U.S.
