New Documentary About Hudson Valley Man Saving Lives on 9/11
It's a day we will never forget. The lives lost on 9/11 will never be forgotten and their stories will be told, just like the story of the Man in Red Banana.
Welles Crowther was a 24 year old Hudson Valley native, who grew up in Nayack, and was a volunteer firefighter at the age of 16. Crowther was a part of the Empire Hook & Ladder Co., No. 1, Upper Nyack, NY as a junior member and when he turned 18 took the proper exams to become a full member.
After graduating from Boston College Welles worked for Sandler O’Neill & Partners, on the 104th floor of 2 World Trade Center.
Welles lost his life during the terror attacks on 9/11. However, his story lives on.
On September 8th a film titled "Man in Red Bandana" will be released. The story follows the last hours of Welles Crowthers' life and how he saved several lives after the planes hit the World Trade Center. Many of the details behind Welles final hours remained unknown until several eyewitnesses stepped forward to tell their story about the man with the red bandana. According to the movies website Welles "called for fire extinguishers, he found and directed dazed and confused victims to the only stairwell that was open for escape, and he carried a woman down to the 61st floor, then returned to the 78th floor to rescue more people."
The Crowthers' family knew that the man with the red bandana was Welles, as he always carried one in his back pocket.
