Prescription drugs are the second most abused category of drugs in the United States and too often we hear from families of overdose victims that before switching to a more harder drug, such as heroin, they started with pain pills often found in the family medicine cabinet.

If you have medicines that you are no longer taking, please don't flush them or toss them in the trash. A better way to remove these from your home is to take them to the New Paltz Police Department this Saturday, April 30. It's all part of the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

The New Paltz Police Department are joining forces with the Greater New Paltz Community Partnership to collect these leftover or no longer needed medicines. If you have such medicines, please drop them off on Saturday by utilizing the Med Return box in the front foyer of the New Paltz Police Department.

Here's other events being offered by the Greater New Paltz Community Partnership to help reduce substance abuse here in the Hudson Valley.
