This entrance and exit on the New York State Thruway have always confused me.

You would think that growing up in the small town of Windham up in the Catskills, I would never have a problem getting on and off the Thruway, but for a really long time I always got turned around when it came to getting on and off in Saugerties.

It's the only exit on the New York State Thruway I can think of that has a different exit to get on and another one in a completely different area to get off. Now I don't travel the thruway very much so there might be other ones like it, but I do know that for a long time when I would get on the thruway in Saugerties to head to Kingston I would always drive past the entrance ramp and have to turn around.

After getting off in Saugerties a few times I actually went the wrong way to get home because I had no idea where I came out. I made a right near Mcdonald's instead of a left and wound up on Main Street in Saugerties...LOL!

Yeah, it was a long time ago and according to Hudson Valley One, my least favorite on-ramp on the thruway is now getting some much-needed help when it comes to traffic. Alex Wade the Village of Saugerties special projects coordinator has announced that the New York Department of Transportation has approved the installation of a traffic light at the southbound entrance to the New York State Thruway.

A first the New York Thruway Authority was thinking of putting a roundabout in the area but settled on a traffic light, because according to Wade, "they decided it would be too expensive." So a new traffic light it is to help with traffic issues on the ramp. Installation of the new traffic signal will begin this spring and according to Wade, "They say they will have it upgraded by fall."

We will update this article when they announce when installation will begin.
