
Metro-North Unveils 8th Heritage Series Train As a Tribute to Our Nations Veterans
What is Metro-North's Heritage Series?
Since 2023 MTA Metro-North Railroads have been rebranding locomotives to highlight the railroads 42 years of service to the public.
The MTA website details all 7 of the rebrands over the last few years. According to the website, the first rebrand "paid homage to Metro-North's original design."

Since that first Heritage Series there have been locomotives there have been rebrands that paid tribute to New York Central, Conrail and other previous lines and workers in MTA history.
The latest unveil is paying tribute to a special group of individuals in New York and across the nation.
MTA Unveils 8th Locomotive in Heritage Series Created by Veterans
On Monday November 10th, 2025, the day before Veterans Day, MTA Metro-North Railroad unveiled their 8th locomotive in Metro-North's Heritage Series.
This locomotive is a tribute to our nation's veterans. In a press release, the MTA explains that this tribute was created and designed by a 12 person crew of Metro-North Veterans.
Metro-North Railroad President Justin Vonashek said in the statement “Metro-North is proud to recognize and honor the men and women who have served our country." Adding:
This locomotive represents our gratitude to the veterans who are part of our Metro-North family and to all who have worn the uniform. Their dedication, teamwork, and service reflect the very same values that drive our railroad every day.”
The details on the locomotive have been reimagined as embroidered uniform patches. It's also wrapped in "a fabric-textured design resembling an American Flag with detailed stars."
You can see displays of iconic military equipment on the trail like the Navy's transport doc ship USS New York, a Coast Guard Cutter, a Marine Corps Super Stalling, and an Army Blackhawk Helicopter.

Where Can You See The MTA Veterans Locomotive?
The Veterans locomotive will be on display starting Tuesday November 11th, 2025, until Wednesday November 12th at Grand Central Terminal in New York City.
After its 2-day stint at Grand Central the locomotive will tour Metro-North’s employee facilities. According to the press release the Veterans locomotive will enter "revenue service at the end of November."
You'll be able to see the newest locomotive in the Heritage Series, as well as the 7 other locomotives, operating normally on Metro-North's Hudson, Harlem and New Haven Lines and "on any train that normally operates with the railroad's dual-mode diesel/electric locomotives."
