Monticello, New York Dog Makes Incredible Recovery After Abuse

Puppy Severely Injured in Monticello NY

Back in early December of 2024 police officers in Monticello New York responded to a disturbance call at the Horizons Apartment Complex.

According to the reports, the 911 call stated that a man was "violently abusing a dog."

Monticello Police Officer's arrived on the scene and could hear the dog crying out in pain. After entering the apartment, the officers found 34-year-old Rawle A. Reynolds of Brooklyn, New York and a severely injured dog on the bathroom floor.

It's alleged that the small puppy was stabbed in the head.

Reynolds was later arrested and charged with Aggravated Cruelty to an Animal. At the time of his arrest Reynolds was on on parole in New York through July 2029 for a previous felony conviction.

The injured dog was then turned over to Animal Control Officer Joanne Gerow, and underwent veterinary care.

Greenwich, CT Nonprofit Helps Injured NY Dog on Road to Recovery

A non-profit organization called Guardian HEALS, based out of Greenwich, Connecticut jumped in to help the injured dog, who was named Cassidy at the time. Guardian HEALS is "dedicated to saving pets’ lives by providing financial assistance for at-risk pet owners."

Shortly after Cassidy was placed in veterinary care, Guardian HEALS received "a significant amount of donations" that would be used to assist on his road to recovery. On December 13th, 2024, Guardian HEALS shared a video of Cassidy's first steps in recovery:

Now after almost a month after the attack, Cassidy is now known as Walter and has made incredible strides on his journey to perfect health.

Guardian HEALS writes "He is bouncing back quickly considering everything he's been through. He is getting stronger every day and is well on his way to being a happy, normal puppy."
