A tragic and heartbreaking investigation is underway after police discovered six people dead inside a residence in Upstate New York.

According to the Mechanicville Police Department, it began on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2026, when officers were called to a home on Harris Avenue in Mechanicville, NY, to conduct a welfare check after neighbors became concerned when they had not seen the resident for several days.

UPDATE: According to WTEN, a 64-year-old Upstate New York grandma is suspected of taking her own life after killing her daughter and four grandchildren. The bodies of Amy Steadman, her daughter Sarah, and her four grandchildren were found dead in her Mechanicville, New York, apartment on Tuesday after a neighbor requested a welfare check. According to the police chief, a handwritten note found in the apartment "strongly suggests” that the grandma was involved in the deaths. The cause of death for all six is pending further testing.
