Man Attempts to Abduct Girl Walking on Poughkeepsie Street
A teen was physically grabbed by an adult male and pulled down the street while she walked to school Wednesday morning in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Early Wednesday morning February 7th the City of Poughkeepsie Police reported that a person along with an alleged victim walked into police headquarters to report an attempted abduction that just happened.
Attempted Abduction in Poughkeepsie, NY
According to the City of Poughkeepsie PBA Facebook page at approximately 8:30 a.m. a person walked into the police station with a 14-year-old female and told police that a man just attempted to abduct the teenager.
The unidentified persons told police that the teenager was walking to school in the area of Carroll Street in Poughkeepsie when she was physically grabbed by an adult male, who then attempted to escort her down the street. They went on to tell police that the teen didn't know who the man was and as witnesses watched what was happening they stepped in and confronted the man.
Man Said He Was a Poice Officer
As witnesses confronted the man he identified himself as a police officer and threatened to arrest the witness. Not giving up, the witnesses continued to confront the man until he finally released her and one of the witnesses transported her directly to police headquarters to report what happened.
Poughkeepsie Police Investigate
As police began their investigation they were able to identify the suspect as a 61-year-old City of Poughkeepsie resident. The unidentified man was taken into custody shortly after by patrol units and the City of Poughkeepsie Juvenile Detectives. He was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Impersonation, and Unlawful Imprisonment.

He was arraigned in Poughkeepsie City Court and then turned over to New York State Police as he already had an outstanding warrant. When police release more information we will update this article.
