If you've been waiting to plan a camping trip, the time is now.

As we get ready for the Hudson Valley to enter phase two of the reopening of the region a lot of us have been waiting to plan out our summer vacations. We talked last week about some of the things we are all looking forward to doing over the next few weeks and months, and if camping in on your list of vacations to try and pull off this summer, you need to reserve a spot in most New York State parks.

According to ABC 7, any campers that are looking to camp at any New York State parks this summer can start making reservations Monday, June 8. As far as availability goes, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation have announced that the first available check-in date will be Monday, June 22nd.

As state parks begin reopening, they will have many rules in effect to protect campers and employees including the following, campers must practice social distancing and wear a mask, campground gatherings will be limited to immediate household members only and all campground events and programs are suspended until further notice.

One big change for campers this year is that you will need to make a reservation because NO WALK-UP reservation will be allowed. Other guidelines parks will follow for cleaning are that all restroom facilities will be opened and cleaned according to the Dept of Health guidelines and restrooms and shower buildings may have reduced capacity and could be closed periodically for cleaning.

Most parks will have Social Distancing Ambassadors that will be monitoring campgrounds, picnic areas, and most other areas to make sure that park guidelines are being followed.

If guidelines aren't followed, the State Park Police could be called in and anyone not following the rules will be asked to leave without a refund.

You can make a reservation by calling 1-800-456-CAMP or you can make one online here.
