Popular Department Store Planning to Close 55 More Locations
A major department store with 38 stores in New York State has announced plans to close even more locations.
The last few years have been "rough" for a lot of businesses leading to many of them having to make the drastic decision to close locations. Debt, inflation, staffing issues, online shopping, and theft are just some of the reasons behind stores like Big Lots, Best Buy, Red Lobster, and Rite Aid closing locations across the country.
Macy's Closing Select Stores in 2024
Back at the beginning of 2024, we shared that Macy's was planning to close select stores across the country including stores in Arlington, Virginia, San Leandro, & Simi Valley, California, Lihue, Hawaii and Tallahassee, Florida. At the time Macy's didn't say why each store would be closing but now it appears that was only the beginning as another round of closures at the major department store is expected soon.
More Macy's Stores Closing
Macy's, which has around 500 stores across the country recently announced that they are closing another 55 stores by the end of the year according to Franknez. Macy's didn't specify what soon-to-be-closed stores the announcement would affect but did say close to 150 locations could close within the next three years. The new round of closures is part of the company's ongoing efforts to revitalize its business.

There are currently 38 Macy's locations across New York and three in the Hudson Valley region including stores in the Poughkeepsie Galleria on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie, the Galleria at Crystal Run at 1 Galleria Drive in Middletown and at the Jefferson Valley Mall at 700 Lee Blvd, in Yorktown Heights, New York.

We've reached out to all three locations and the employees we spoke to said that haven't heard about any plans for any of the stores to close anytime soon. When more information regarding which stores will be clsoing is announced we will update this article.
