Luke Combs has experienced a banner year in 2018, having achieved two No. 1 singles bringing his still-emerging career total up to a remarkable four. That said, it's not much of a surprise that the singer managed to scoop up the trophy for New Artist of the Year at the 2018 CMA Awards — his first major award as a country artist.

The singer took the stage to accept his award by addressing first and foremost his parents. "Whoa, Mom and Dad are here," he said with a laugh, before going on to acknowledge "everybody that believed in me and inspired me."

Combs summed his short speech up succinctly by simply bursting out with the heartfelt statement: "I love country music, man."

Combs faced off in the New Artist category against Lauren Alaina, Chris Janson, Midland and Brett Young. He's also up for the formidable Male Artist of the Year award.

Combs is set to headline arenas in 2019 on his Beer Never Broke My Heart Tour that crosses the U.S. January through May.

The 2018 CMA Awards are held at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena and aired live by ABC. The show is being hosted by Underwood and Brad Paisley, who have helmed the event for 11 consecutive years running.
