Local Marlboro, New York Business Owner Saves Cat Stuck in a Tree
We love it when a community comes together for a great cause like this!
Ulster County Animal Rescue Finds Cat Stuck in a Tree
A volunteer from Take Me Home Pet Rescue spotted something unusual in a tree in the Dawesville area of Marlboro, New York earlier this week.
After the volunteer got a little bit closer, they realized what they saw was a white cat high up in the branches of a tree, "frozen in place." According to the Take Me Home team member, the cat had to be at least 30 feet off the ground.
The volunteer sighted the cat around 8:30 in the morning and called police immediately. Police told the volunteer that someone would be dispatched to the area to take care of it. However, the volunteer returned later that afternoon and the cat was in the same exact spot.
Local Tree Company Rescues Cat From Tree in Marlboro
After realizing that the cat was still stuck in the tree, Take Me Home Pet Rescue "put out an urgent call on social media."
The rescue begged for help, advice or "someone with the right tools to step in." Their was a huge response from the community with comments and shares on social media. One name in particular kept popping up: Chris Columbo.
Chris is a local tree climber and the owner of Columbo Tree Care. He told TMH Pet Rescue that he could get out there first thing the next morning.
But then at 9:30 pm that same night, Columbo messaged the rescue stating "I can’t sleep knowing the cat is still up there. I’m going now.”
Columbo geared up and carefully climbed the tree. He reached the cat and around 10:45 pm both Chris and the cat were safely on the ground.
Great work by everyone involved!
Take Me Home Pet Rescue Helps Foster Pets Find Forever Homes
Take Me Home Pet Rescue is known in the Hudson Valley as the rescue that fosters dogs from the North Carolina area and from high kill shelters.
So of course their natural instinct is to get this cat back to its family or find it a new safe haven.

One TMH volunteer heard that a family nearby recently moved and during the move lost their cat. Unfortunately, that was a dead end as they later learned it wasn't the same cat.
Chris took the cat home after rescuing it from the tree and now Take Me Home is working on getting the cat to the vet and going through the next steps of reuniting the cat with its family, finding it a foster or finding the cat a forever home.
