You Never Know Who You'll Run Into in The Hudson Valley

For the last few years, we've seen the amount of celebrity sightings across the region skyrocket.

It probably has something to do with all the new production studios in the area and streaming services using the Hudson Valley as a backdrop for their new projects.

We're not complaining!

But sometimes, the celebrities show up to support local businesses, artists and organizations.

One of the latest celebrity sightings involves an amazing local theater company and one of the biggest Broadway stars.

Lin-Manuel Miranda Supports Hudson Valley Shakespeare in Garrison

In August the talented team at Hudson Valley Shakespeare performed Octet.

The musical "finds compelling human drama in our middle-of-the-night anxieties about the impact of technology on the nature of our relationships" using "rich harmonies and intricate vocal arrangements" according to the HVS website.

Octet was written and composed by David Malloy.

David Malloy seems to have a fan in none other than Lin- Manuel Miranda.

Miranda is knowns for creating and starring in the Broadway musical Hamilton as well as In The Heights.

Looks like the actor was able to take some time off to visit Hudson Valley Shakespeare for their Octet performances back towards the end of August.

The post goes on to mention this isn't Miranda's first time visiting HVS. We love to see celebs supporting our local non-profits and artists!

What's Coming Up at Hudson Valley Shakespeare?

It looks like big things are in the works for Hudson Valley Shakespeare.

Early September marked a "historic moment under the HVS tent." It marked their final performance of the season before they open the brand new Samuel H Scripps Theater Center in 2026.

For 38 years Hudson Valley Shakespeare has been held under the tent in Garrison. In 2026 HVS will have their "first-ever permanent home – the Samuel H. Scripps Theater Center.:

According to their website the theater is "designed by the celebrated architecture firm Studio Gang." They add:

Protected from the elements but open to the landscape, the Scripps Theater Center will be the first purpose-built LEED Platinum theater in the United States.

As the 2025 season comes to an end, HVS will host their 2025 Gala on October 12th to celebrate and support the future of HVS at the Scripps Theater Center.

Additionally, HVS will host Community Bake-Off. The Bake-Off was created by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel. While there aren't sweet treats being bakes, the Bake-Off is a "writing event in which writers are given a random list of 'ingredients' to incorporate into a play."

It's a free workshop event, help on November 15th and 16th 2025, but registration is required.
