Kids’ Summer Food Program Coming Back to The Hudson Valley

For many, the end of the school year can’t come soon enough.  For some families in the Hudson Valley though, the end of the school year brings challenges such as a loss of structure for their kids and losing two meals a day that they may not otherwise get.

For families who are struggling to make ends meet, the summer can be a tough time. It may mean only one meal on the table instead of three. That's where the Summer Food Service Program can really help out.

While the USDA administers the program on a federal level, the New York State Education Department does so for families throughout the state, including here in the Hudson Valley.  Public schools, community centers, libraries, and other organizations have applied to be able to provide this program for families in their communities.

Throughout the summer, they will provide free meals to kids and teens who are 18 and younger. It's easy to find free summer meals near you. Simply enter your zip code and select how many 'nearest locations' you'd like to find and that's it. On the map, select the one you want and all of the details pop up such as hours, directions, etc.

If you or someone you know could use a helping hand this summer, this just might be the answer to help make summer a little less stressful.
