K-9 Cop Nabs Alleged Felon
City of Newburgh Police announced the arrest of a person wanted on felony charges. On Dec. 28 at approximately 1:22 am K9 Officer Roman Scuadroni was patrolling west end neighborhood in the City of Newburgh near Third Street and Valley Avenue when he observed Martin Ochoa-Cardosa, a man who was wanted out of the City of Newburgh on felony domestic violence charges. Police say that Ochoa-Cardosa had been on the run for the last seven months and had previously fled from law enforcement officers.
When Officer Scuadroni attempted to stop Ochoa-Cardosa he immediately fled on foot and Officer Scuadroni deployed his K9 partner “Lee” to apprehend him. K9 “Lee” apprehended Ochoa-Cardosa after he allegedly attempted to flee through several yards. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Ochoa-Cardosa was wanted on charges of second-degree criminal mischief and first-degree criminal contempt. Ochoa-Cardosa was additionally charged with resisting arrest and was held for arraignment in the City of Newburgh.
At the time of his arrest, Mr. Ochoa-Cardosa had additional warrants out of the following jurisdictions: one from the New York State Police, Montgomery on a charge of resisting arrest and one from the Village of Goshen Police Department for a charge of false personation
