JOANN Closes Over 500 Locations Across the Nation

Earlier this month, the popular fabric and crafting chain Joann announced they would be closing over half of their locations nationwide.

This came after the retailer had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy not once, but twice in less than a year.

Unfortunately, that early February 2025 closure announcement closed 24 locations in New York State including a handful in the Hudson Valley. However, 2 weeks later and Joann has made a big announcement regarding their future.

Closing All Stores: JOANN Announces Permanent Closure

According to NBC News, as of February 24th 2025, JOANN will be closing all 800 of their locations nationwide.

The company shared the following in a statement shared with NBC that reads "JOANN leadership, our Board, advisors and legal partners made every possible effort to pursue a more favorable outcome that would keep the company in business,."

They were unable to find a buyer that would keep the company open. However, JOANN adds that they are working with the winning bidder to "ensure an orderly wind-down of operations that minimizes the impact on all our stakeholders."

When will JOANN close? According to their website they "expect to being, or in some cases continue, going out-of-business sales at all locations immediately." Stores, Joann.com and the mobile app will also remain open with sales.

The website explains that they expect it will "take a number of weeks to complete our final sales."

What Other Chain Retailers are Closing in 2025?

Unfortunately, there's a pattern here and we can add Joann to the list of chain retailers closing in 2025.
