Country star Jake Owen shared a cover of Glen Campbell’s “Wichita Lineman” in memory of the iconic country star on Tuesday (Aug. 8). Owen accompanied his tribute, posted to Instagram, with a touching note in Campbell's honor.

Owen posted his "Wichita Lineman" video shortly after the news broke that Campbell, who had been fighting a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease, had died at the age of 81 on Tuesday morning. Readers can press play above to watch it.

“We lost one of the greatest voices, guitar players and entertainer that our world has ever seen,” writes Owen in the post accompanying his video. “It seems this year has been filled with these moments where we've lost people that have enriched our lives with their pure talent. This is a huge loss for country music.”

Owen's tender cover of "Wichita Lineman" offers a little hope, too: “Maybe Glen and Merle [Haggard] are picking a tune together right now,” he writes. “If so, I bet my grandad is right there with a front-row ticket. Life is short. Enjoy it while it's here.”

Released in 1969, Campbell’s version of “Wichita Lineman” was the title track of his 12th studio album. It became the Rhinestone Cowboy’s first gold single, selling more than half a million copies.

Owen is currently on tour in support of his newest album, American Love.
