The Callicoon Theater is a historic gem in Callicoon. Their website higlighted that this cinema was first built in the 1940's! The Callicoon Theater also shared that it's

"the oldest continually operated cinema in Sullivan County, New York. "

It woud be fun to see the historic charm of this movie theater while watching something on the big screen!

The Callicoon Theater Has A Fascinating "Quonset Hut" Style Design


The Callicoon Theater shared some fascinating historical information about their building. They highlighted that their theater's building is unique and can be referred to as a "Quonset Hut". The Callicoon Theater stated,

" The Callicoon Theater is currently one of only 17 operational Quonset Hut cinemas left in the United States"

If you have never heard about this before, its history dates back to after World War II, when Quonset Hut designs became very popular!

It’s incredible to see The Callicoon Theater receive recognition and love from both the U.S. Congress and the New York State Assembly for its place on the National Register of Historic Places.
