We can find out more information on the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (NY DMV) website than we thought we were able to.

While I was scrolling on the NY DMV's website, I noticed that they had services such as how to renew licenses, change addresses, register vehicles and how to make a reservation at locations.

Also on NY DMV's website they shared,

"Beginning on May 7, 2025, the federal government will require your driver license, permit or ID card to be REAL ID compliant if you wish to use it as identification to board a domestic flight (within the U.S.)."

A feature on their website could help drivers in the future.

Helpful Feature Hidden On New York DMV's Website

On the DMV's website, guests can scroll through on the main page. There will be a section highlighting Vehicle Safety Recalls.

This helpful feature shows vehicle recalls and how to get replacements. Drivers can click on View Current Recalls to enter their information in.

After clicking on the View Current Recalls from the DMV's website, guests will then be taken to the Vehicle Recall Search Tool.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's search tool is accessible on the DMV's website and will give guests vehicle recall information. A license plate number or the vin/ year make model are needed to complete the research.

Not only are vehicle recalls accessible on the DMV's website through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration but car seat, tire and equipment recalls are also on there too.

On the same website, NYS drivers can download the NHTSA's SaferCar app, it's free. When this app discovers a recall for equipment or vehicle, they will send an alert to the phone number provided.

While it may not be the first thing to accomplish on our to-do lists, it can be something that we try to remember often.

Checking to see if they're are recalls on our vehicle are important for our safety, other drivers and the passengers in our vehicle. We're hopeful that the car dealership and/or car company who we purchased our vehicle from would notify us if there was a recall.

It's also important to check to see if there are recalls on a vehicle that you're considering to purchase.

I'm thankful to have found this hidden feature on the DMV's website.

For information about vehicle recalls can be found on the New York DMV's website and with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
