It's easy to forget how historic many areas of the City of Poughkeepsie are. The Chance Theater, which was recently sold, started as a vaudeville theater. Many of the large buildings on Main Street and Market Street have been around for generations. Poughkeepsie was founded in 1686 and the city was officially incorporated in 1854.

A Poughkeepsie Company That's as Old as the CIty

Just four years after the incorporation of the City of Poughkeepsie, J.D. Johnson Company was founded in 1858. The plumbing, showroom, commercial heating and air supply business started 165 years ago. The company sells supplies for plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning as well as kitchen and bath fixtures. Builders, contractors and homeowners have most likely, at one point, been to their showroom on Church Street for a hard-to-find part or fixture.

Generations-Old Poughkeepsie Company Sold After 165 Years

This week another generations-old company announced that it had acquired the historic Poughkeepsie heating and air supply company. F.W. Johnson Company is complete.

What is F.W. Webb Company?

The company, much like the former Poughkeepsie distributor that it purchased, has been around since the mid-1800s. The company is a third-generation family-run business that now has over 100 locations throughout nine states.
