Arts Center Rooted on Mountain Rest Road New Paltz Relocates After 45 Years
When it comes to art and culture, there is no shortage of opportunities here in the Hudson Valley to explore both. Communities across the area are rich with so many wonderful centers and spaces that promote art in many different forms.
One particular center that has been operating in New Paltz since 1976 has been preparing for a relocation, just across town into a historic new site. In doing so, their former space will also be available for rent.
Unison Arts Center, New Paltz, Relocates to Paradies Lane
Following a 45 year tenure at 68 Mountain Rest Road in New Paltz, Unison Arts is making the move to their new location across town, at 9 Paradies Lane.
Pronounced 'paradise' (Paradies), the new Unison space which has served as a secondary location, is located within a historic site in New Paltz called the Holsted House.

The Paradies Lane site was donated to Unison in 2021 by Daniel Getman and Janice Pickering, owners, and is much more centrally located to better serve the New Paltz community. Portions of the 2,800 square foot building date back to 1776, with historical rumors swirling that a section of the property known as 'the Creamery' could have been around since 1730.
What Is Unison Arts?
With a vision of being a place where the community comes together to experience the performing and fine arts in an intimate and inviting atmosphere, Unison sees themselves as a 'newly-reorganized vibrant heart of an already vital community.' Enriching the New Paltz community with exhibits and performances, and a foundation of 'innovative environmental, racial, and justice centered art practices.'
With programs ranging from dance to after school programs for kids, educational workhops and performing arts events, Unison has also served as a rental space for the community for events, workshops and even weddings, and collaborates a great deal with SUNY New Paltz as well.
68 Mountain Rest Road For Rent Following Unison Move
Once the full transition from Mountain Rest Road to Paradies Lane is complete, the property owners will be seeking new tenants for the 14-acre space. Referred to as 'park-like grounds,' the site offers a 1,000 square foot high ceiling performance/gallery space, as well as two separate rooms perfect for private meetings, classes or workshops. The space also offers two bathrooms, a fully functional kitchen, and outside, a deck, outdoor stage, and sculpture garden. 68 Mountain Rest Road will be available for rent beginning in April.
