New ‘Tourist Attraction’ After Massive Crash on the NY Thruway
On Friday June 7th, traffic on the New York State Thruway came to a standstill near New Paltz, NY after a crash between a tractor trailer and a New York State Thruway Authority (NYSTA) maintenance vehicle.
Luckily, no fatalities were reported in the incident, but the aftermath (below) shows just how lucky the truck driver and NYSTA employee were to have survived. Surprisingly, that wasn't the last stop for the truck in the Hudson Valley.
Tractor Trailer Crash on the New York State Thruway
After emergency crews responded to the accident and medical care was rendered to the injured parties, the next step was removing the mangled vehicles. Perry's Towing was tapped with the monumental task of transporting the enormous tractor trailer from the Thruway, and inadvertently created a tourist attraction in front of their business in Kingston, NY (below).

It's not every day that a virtual cross-section of one of the largest vehicles on the road is on display for all to see. As the totaled tractor trailer lay waiting to be transported back to its trucking company's warehouse, Kingston residents were able to get a closer look at the twisted metal.
Crowds Gather to See Crashed Tractor Trailer in Kingston, NY
While Perry's Towing deals with disabled vehicles daily, an employee called the damage to the tractor trailer "extreme", which may account for the small crowd of people witnessed the following afternoon, taking pictures of the truck and wondering aloud what exactly was the cause of the accident. Unfortunately, the crash wasn't an isolated incident.
Another Crash on the New York State Thruway
Just five days after the crash in New Paltz, NY, another official vehicle was hit by a driver in Saratoga Springs, NY. While less dramatic than the tractor trailer crash, it serves as another reminded to all drivers, both private and commercial, of the need for increased safety awareness (below).
