Zack Short, who was born in Kingston, NY, attended Kingston High School, and later Sacred Heart University, was drafted in 2016 by the Chicago Cubs in the 17th round, and in 2019 was added to the Cubbies 40-man-roster.

Though delayed in making his official MLB debut due to the shortened season due to COVID, and after being traded to the Detriot Tigers, in April 2021 Short made his first appearance against the Pittsburgh Pirates and logged 61 games with the Tigers that season.

Back in November of 2023 Short was claimed off waivers by his favorite team growing up, the New York Mets, and has officially been added to their Opening Day roster.

In the last few days of Spring Training leading to Opening Day, it was announced by David Stearns, President of Baseball Operations for the Mets, that Short would 'fill one of the final bench spots' for the team's Opening Day roster.

It was a pretty special morning. I’ve never made an Opening Day team before so it’s pretty cool, especially all offseason, I was claimed pretty early so I never knew what the plans were so I just tried to stay in my lane and do my thing.

This all according to SNY, who also shared that this Thursday's Opening Day will be a special one for Short:

I haven’t played at Citi before, so I think that drive in and putting on the real jersey for the first time is going to hit pretty special.

The Mets will take on the Brewers in Queens on Thursday 3/28 at 1:10pm for Opening Day where Short will wear number 74.
