Has This New Prom Craze Hit The Hudson Valley?
It's officially prom season here in the Hudson Valley, with some schools 'main events' already behind us, and others in the weeks to come.
A lot has changed in the 20-something years since I last attended a prom, as it seems these days there are less limo reservations and hair/makeup appointments, maybe we have YouTube and TikTok to thank for the latter, as teens these days are much better at hair and makeup than I ever was.
Something else seems to have changed these days too, and I thought I was the only one who noticed, but the local moms are on the case too...prom flowers.
Are Prom Corsages Out, Prom Bouquets In?
For many of us, prom is way back in the rearview mirror, but it's likely that we can remember all the things that needed to be done ahead of the big night. Secure the dress, suit or tux, the perfect shoe, figure out the transportation, hair and makeup, who's going with who of course, and coordinating outfits accordingly. What about ordering the boutonniere and corsage, are we still doing corsages?
These days it seems like there's a split between corsages and prom bouquets, even some combinations of both. Some research into the local moms groups pointed me towards trusty TikTok to find some current prom trends, and to my surprise, it looks like the bouquet trend is pretty big, er, viral right now.
It seems like some prom-goers are even making a night out of it, getting the gang together for some pre-prom-prep and making their own bouquets that are of course used in photos (you can see how to properly display them in photos below), and then the trick is to arrange them on the table to create a nice centerpiece - who knew?
Are Corsages Done?
It seems like a personal preference, as many photos still show plenty of gals proudly displaying the traditional corsage, typically gifted by their prom dates. I do remember that 'flower bracelet' (because let's be serious, that's what it is) getting in the way of everything, getting caught on things, and being tricky to eat and drink with - maybe the bouquet really is the way to go.

Would I be dating myself if I asked if anyone pressed their prom flowers back in the day, or even still have them preserved to this day? That was a thing way back when, right?
What's your take on this new prom flower trend? Team prom bouquet? All in for the traditional corsage? I'll take one of each?
