It’s Spring Which Means, Drive In Movie Season
When I went away to college in Boston, my roommates were stunned that I was from a town with two drive in movie theaters. They either hadn't been to a drive in theater since they were young or had never been to one at all, which was mind boggling to me.
Here in Dutchess County I know we have two popular drive in locations. Overlook Drive-In on DeGarmo Road in Poughkeepsie and the Hyde Park Drive-In on Route 9 in Hyde Park. I find myself driving past the Hyde Park Drive-In and reading the "See You in Spring" sign just waiting for it to change for to a double feature. It looks like that will happen sooner rather than later. According to the Hyde Park Drive-in Facebook page they will officially be opening for the season on Friday, April 21st. It looks like both Hyde Park and Overlook are run by the same folks and have the same opening day. No word yet on what the first two films will be but I'm crossing my fingers for the 8th installment of The Fast and The Furious franchise "Fate of the Furious" or Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler's comedy "The House." Tickets for both outdoor theaters are $10 for adults $6 for kids(5-11) and children under 5 are free.
If you're closer to Orange County then consider yourself ahead of the game. The Warwick Drive In has already started their season and currently showing "Beauty and the Beast" and "KONG: Skull Island."
What are you looking forward to seeing this summer at the Drive In?
