With Indian Point being in the news lately as the result of a reported leak of tritium into the groundwater at the power plant, we thought it best to let you know about an upcoming, planned test at Indian Point.

According to a press release from Orange County Commissioner of Emergency Services, Walter C. Koury and Orange County Deputy Commissioner, Craig Cherry;  a full-volume test of the Indian Point Energy Center siren system will be conducted between 10 and 11 am on Wednesday, February 17 throughout the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone around Indian Point, including the sirens in Orange County.

During the test, sirens will sound at full-volume simultaneously for four minutes. No action on the part of the public is necessary or required for this drill. If the sirens were sounded during an actual emergency, you would listen to an Emergency Alert System radio or television station for information and instructions about any action to be taken. It is not a signal to evacuate.
