ICE arrested over 80 in New York, including many from the Hudson Valley. One person arrested in the region is a registered sex offender.

Officers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) arrested more than 82 during a five-day period, ending Wednesday in New York City, the Hudson Valley and Long Island.

All were arrested for allegedly violating U.S. immigration laws. According to ICE, Of those arrested, more than 40 were previously released from local law enforcement custody with an active detainer. Ten of those arrested were previously removed from the United States and returned illegally. Several had prior felony convictions for serious or violent offenses, such as sexual crimes, weapons charges, and assault, or had past convictions for significant or multiple misdemeanors.

“Of those arrested during these five days, more than half were released from local custody with an active detainer. That is more than three dozen illegal aliens with convictions or criminal charges who were released back into New York communities, further putting the safety of its residents at risk,” Thomas R. Decker, field office director for ERO New York, said.

In the Hudson Valley, ICE made arrests in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Ulster and Westchester counties.

ICE didn't release how many were arrested in each region but highlighted a few arrests. Among those detained were a 40-year-old Mexican national in Yonkers and a 51-year-old Mexican national in Mamaroneck. Both were released from NYPD custody with an active detainer, officials say.

According to ICE, the 40-year-old was charged with forcible touching and sexual abuse. The 51-year-old, a registered sex offender, has convictions for unlawful surveillance and DWI. He also has pending charges for forcible touching, public lewdness, sexual abuse and unlawful surveillance.

The arrestees include nationals from Algeria, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ghana, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru, Philippines, Spain, and Ukraine.
