Hudson Valley Teen Fights To Bring Back ‘Tappan Zee’ Bridge Name

A Hudson Valley teen is trying to put the "Tappan Zee" name back on the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge.

17-year-old David Dunlop was recently honored by the Tappantown Historical Society for his efforts to restore the historic name of the Tappan Zee Bridge. Many don't like the new bridge's name which is named after Gov. Andrew Cuomo's father.

“As far as I know, David is the youngest person to receive a THS Preservation Award,” Tappantown Historical Society President Carol LaValle said. “His design, creation and distribution of the sign attracted the support of many residents of the area, and beyond.”

Dunlop, a senior at Tappan Zee High School, received the Achievement Award in Historic Preservation from the Society at its annual awards dinner at the Old ’76 House in Tappan.

Dunlop designed and helped distribute a sign that read, “The Bridge Name Must Stay Tappan Zee,” with the late governor's name crossed out.
