Another day, another data leak. Is any business able to protect our personal data anymore?

According to NPR, Panera Bread has been exposing customers' data on its website for months. Panera Bread was alerted in August about the information being exposed on the website, but according to the article, nothing was done to secure it.

The data that was leaked includes customers' first and last name, their date of birth, address, email address, phone number and the last portion of their credit card number.

NPR said the restaurant's website was taken down on Monday, April 2, but as of Wednesday, April 4, the site has not been re-published. The security adviser who sent Panera the warning said the information was easily accessible and anyone could read it. The customers' information was also listed sequentially.

Even if you do not have a My Panera Rewards card, your data could have been exposed. The article states that Panera collects data for in-store orders, online orders, catering orders, and delivery orders as well.

The Hudson Valley has several Panera Bread locations:

  • Poughkeepsie
  • Arlington
  • Ulster
  • Fishkill
  • Newburgh
  • Middletown
  • Monroe
  • Yorktown Heights
  • Mohegan Lake
  • Bedford Hills
  • West Nyack
  • Nanuet

Their mac and cheese is good, but is it good enough to get over the fact that they potentially leaked my credit card information? Nope.
