Hudson Valley Office Saved Suicidal Student’s Life

A Hudson Valley officer was recognized for saving a suicidal student's life.

On Thursday, Orange County Sheriff's Office Deputy Patrick White was recognized by Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois and the Orange County Legislature for helping save a student who was contemplating suicide earlier this month.

White, who's been working for the Sheriff’s Office for the past four years, after a 21-year-career with the NYPD, was off-duty on Dec. 4, and working his second job as a security guard for Orange-Ulster BOCES in Goshen.

White was told by school staff that a female student was on the overpass of State Route 17 at South Street in Goshen was contemplating jumping off the bridge into traffic.

"His swift response and calm and professional demeanor were essential to the positive outcome," Orange County Government. "We are proud of Deputy White’s heroics and the fine work that our Sheriff’s Office conducts every day."
